Note: After hearing from many of you that you would like time to catch up on your journaling, I paused our journaling prompts on the weekend, and am resuming today. We’ll do the same again this week. This is also a good time to remind you to go with grace.
Hi dear readers,
On the bookshelf in my office there are a dozen of notebooks I’ve collected over the years.
Within them are troves of wisdom from a multitude of people - friends, writers and thinkers, parents, spiritual and religious leaders - that I’ve written down throughout the varied seasons of my life.
Most recently, the words of a dear friend, Angel, who served as a spiritual mentor to me during my early 20s’ in Atlanta, which was marred by illness, have arose in mind again.
The words are dated from 2013 - the year I felt a pull to leave my journalism career at CNN and embark on recovery. Angel’s words were as striking to me then as they are now. They came from a place of calm and weathered wisdom - a place I hoped to reach one day.
Now, in returning to Angel’s words over twelve years later, I find them a timeless piece of wisdom.
I think often when we are feeling unhappy with a circumstance or situation, we have a tendency to immediately look outward to make a big change. But Angel’s words, filled with the steadfast love that she has instilled in me, remind me to begin by looking inward first - to uncover what ways I might challenge myself to rise to whichever occasion I am in.
Regardless of what it may be for you in this season, I hope you allow Angel’s words to lead us into our journaling this week with gentle grace.
Day Four Lunar New Year Journaling Prompt:
✨ Reflect & Write:
What does settling mean to you?
Can you recall a time in your life when you felt you were settling? How does it make you feel now?
What is an area in your life, if any, you feel you are settling in this season?
Happy journaling my dears.
Love,
Summer
